1974 – 1977
Two firsts, one for my wife, one for me
by Steve PlattJust a quick story. A couple of "firsts." I am the first person to graduate from RPI with a degree in Computer Science in three years. Two summers at RPI (I *really* didn't want to spend the summer bored at home) and a few heavily loaded semesters provided just enough credit-hours to make it through. CS was a new program. I believe that '77 was the third year they graduated CS majors. And I graduated with a minor in psychology, to boot. Another first: My wife, Robin Gordon Schaufler '79 (also CS), is (probably) the first woman graduate whose mother was also a graduate! Her mother was a Curtis Cadette back in 1943 or so. Took all of the aeronautical engineering and math courses, none of the humanities. So she got a "certificate" instead of a "bachelor's."
