1994 – 1997
Digital Health Pioneer
by Nasriah ZakariaI love Medicine and Technology since my high school days. After passing my national examination in 1993, I received a full scholarship to the United States of America. I applied to RPI as it is one of the top 10 schools in Biomedical Engineering in USA. Under the renowned faculty member, Professor Jonathan C. Newell, my journey in this world began. From the Physiology course at Albany Medical Center, to LITEC and Medical courses, I learnt the interesting world of Medicine and Engineering. The summer internship at Albany Med opened my eyes on the application of technology to improve the quality of patient care. I spent another 2 years doing my masters in the Impedance Lab. It was challenging to solve impedance imaging problem, but I passed my master degree with a flying color. I did my Phd in Syracuse University in Information Technology as that complement my Biomedical Engineering skill sets. Fast forward to 2024, I have been actively teaching and doing research in Digital Health in both Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. We will be launching Master of Digital Health at University Malaya and it will be the first of its kind in Malaysia. In Saudi Arabia, I have taught more than one thousand medical students and professional in the area of Digital Health. We are also trying to bridge the gap between university and the industry in Digital Health.
